SARAH SOFIE BJERRE (b.2000, DK)
Sarah Sofie Bjerre is a self-taught ceramic sculptor with no formal art education.
Her work is inspired by the interaction between animals and humans, with a childish and playful approach to the visual universe.
She operates in a naive universe of colors and untraditional shapes, with a twist of abstraction that tells her journey.

Sarah Sofie’s expression and intuitive thoughts is a superpower through her work.
She is drawn to the idea of how humans mirror themselves in animal behaviors, characteristics, etc. Humans are mirroring themselves to find a new world/dimension. Reflecting ourselves in a animal heals us as human beings
According to Sarah Sofie, the sculptures are her personal totem poles. They are mythical creatures that represent her joys, sorrows, struggles, uncertainties, and triumphs. The totem poles are erected in honor of deceased or living persons of high rank. This raising was surrounded by a great ceremony and represented a landmark in a genus.
The mythical creatures represent the contrast between the inner animal and the compassionate human being, which Sarah Sofie frequently reflects on in her daily life as well as an artist.
All her sculptures are made of self-hardening clay and painted with acrylic paint and varnish.
She has been scouted and curated for this year's Upcoming Area in Art for All in Lokomotivværkstedet 2023, by art blogger Connie Boe Boss.
